Fertilizer dealer appointments recently published by the Ministry of Agriculture for Pirganj upazila in Rangpur have sparked widespread controversy over allegations of nepotism, political patronage, and multi-million taka financial transactions.

According to a list submitted by the Upazila BNP President on union-level party pads—which closely mirrored the official temporary allocations—recipients in several unions include close family members of top local BNP leaders, such as the wife of Upazila BNP President Aminul Islam Ranga (Pirganj Sadar), the wife of General Secretary Shariful Islam Dales (Tambulpur), and various relatives of union-level presidents, secretaries, and other party officials.

Local party members and critics have alleged that substantial sums ranging between 15 million and 2.7 million taka were exchanged for specific slots, and that figures associated with other political parties were also accommodated.

Although local BNP leaders organized a press conference rejecting the allegations as false and conspiratorial, the controversy has brought intense scrutiny to the local fertilizer distribution selection process.
