Chittagong South District BNP Forms Special Committees Across 9 Upazilas for Union Parishad Candidate Selection
Chittagong South District BNP forms special upazila screening panels to shortlist qualified party-backed candidates for the upcoming Union Parishad elections.

In preparation for the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections, the Chittagong South District Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has constituted upazila-level special candidate selection committees across nine administrative units to evaluate party-backed aspirants, official party sources confirmed on Wednesday night (September 30, 2026).

Signed by Chittagong South District BNP Convener Alhaj Mohammad Idris Mia and Member Secretary Lion Helal Uddin following a executive decision on September 29, the formal directive mandates committee members to consult senior local leaders, gather direct feedback from grassroots workers and local residents, and submit confidential assessment reports within 10 days. Candidates will be assessed across six key criteria: organizational rank, contributions and case history during past political movements, acceptability among party workers, general public popularity, and overall electoral viability. Special committees have been announced for Anwara, Karnafuli, Banshkhali, Satkania, Lohagara, Chandanaish, Boalkhali, and Patiya upazilas, alongside the North Satkania organizational unit. District BNP Member Secretary Lion Helal Uddin reiterated that despite the absence of formal party symbols in local government races, consensus candidates will be endorsed, warning that strict disciplinary action will be enforced against any members contesting in defiance of party directives.
