The appointment of Ashik Madbor—a former central office secretary of Islami Chhatra Andolan—as the Office Secretary of Shariatpur District Juba Dal has sparked widespread anger and resentment among local party activists. In response to the decision, former President of Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Juba Dal Md. Akhtar Hossain Majhi held a press conference on Friday morning (October 9) demanding the immediate revocation of Ashik's appointment. The controversial announcement was made Thursday evening in a press release signed by Juba Dal Joint General Secretary Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, approved by Central Committee President Abdul Monayem Munna and General Secretary Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan, MP.According to party sources, Ashik Madbor served as the president of the Shariatpur District Islami Chhatra Andolan in 2022 after previously holding the post of general secretary. He then served as an executive member of its central committee in 2024, school and college secretary in 2025, and central office and communication secretary in 2026. However, Emon Sardar, president of the district's Islami Chhatra Andolan unit, confirmed that Ashik was relieved of his organizational duties in March 2026.Despite his departure, Ashik's social media profile remains filled with photos and videos documenting his active political involvement with Islami Chhatra Andolan across various districts.Local Juba Dal leaders expressed deep frustration over appointing a leader from an Islamist student organization to a vital district position."Our dedicated, long-serving activists were overlooked when the five-member district committee was formed last month," said Akhtar Hossain Majhi at the press conference. "We expected dedicated grassroots members to be evaluated in the full committee. Instead, an outsider holding a central office position in another political party was given a crucial post. We cannot accept this and demand his immediate removal."Addressing the controversy, Ashik Madbor acknowledged his past affiliations, stating, "I was associated with Islami Andolan in the past, but I resigned. The party honored me as a July fighter, and I intend to uphold that honor, Insha'Allah."Meanwhile, Shariatpur District Juba Dal President Jamal Uddin Bidyut defended the decision, describing Ashik as an educated and well-mannered individual appointed by central leadership based on merit, adding that he was unaware of Ashik's past political background with another party.
