Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has underscored the deep historical ties between Bangladesh and Turkey, stating that the relationship spans centuries rather than mere decades.

Speaking as the chief guest at the "2nd International Conference on Bangladesh Studies" held at Istanbul University on Friday (October 9, 2026), Dr. Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the importance of academic and policy dialogues in shaping bilateral cooperation. The conference brought together international scholars, diplomats, and policy experts to deliberate on Bangladesh’s ongoing structural reform process, nation-building strategies, and diplomatic synergies with Turkey.

Keynote addresses were presented by Dr. Yasin Aktay, former advisor to the Turkish President and professor at Yildirim Beyazit University, alongside Prof. Dr. Mokarram Hossain of Swansea University. Key dignitaries including Istanbul University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmed Adak, Turkish MP Akif Yilmaz, and Bangladeshi MP Barrister Mahbubul Alam Salehi reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stronger economic, educational, and cultural links between the two nations.
