Government Interference in Judiciary Led to Denial of Bail for Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman, Alleges Jamaat-e-Islami
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar addresses news media alongside central leaders at the party’s central office in Mgbazar, Dhaka on Sunday.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar has alleged that executive interference in the judiciary directly caused the denial of bail for freedom fighter Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman in what he termed a politically motivated case.

Addressing a press briefing at Jamaat-e-Islami’s central office in Mgbazar on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Mia Golam Parwar asserted that Akhtaruzzaman was arrested solely for joining Jamaat-e-Islami and publicly questioning severe administrative mismanagement—including trolley shortages and luggage delays—at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Golam Parwar criticized the civil aviation minister for allegedly making false statements regarding the airport incident and forcing an official to file charges against Akhtaruzzaman. Denouncing the treatment of the 75-year-old former parliamentarian, who was brought to court in handcuffs, a helmet, and a vest without being granted division status or medical care, Golam Parwar also condemned BNP-backed lawyers for allegedly attacking Jamaat activists and defense attorneys on court premises. Warning of growing outrage among expatriate remittance contributors who have threatened a "remittance shutdown," Jamaat leadership demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman.
