The Leader of the Opposition and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has accused the government of deceiving and lying to the general public. He stated that the government is failing to implement the verdict delivered by the people through their votes in the referendum. By ignoring the referendum's mandate, the government has positioned itself against the expectations of the nation, he added.
He made these remarks as the chief guest on Saturday (October 31) morning during a street rally organized by the 11-Party Alliance adjacent to the Padma Bridge Expressway in the Naodoba area of Zanjira upazila, Shariatpur.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that among their seven-point demands, the most crucial mandate is the implementation of the referendum's verdict. The decision given by the people through their franchise is not being honored by the government, which amounts to betraying the nation. No government can survive for long by disregarding the rights and expectations of its citizens, he asserted.

Justice for the July genocide must be guaranteed. Concurrently, effective measures must be executed to control commodity prices, improve the law and order situation, and halt corruption, extortion, and illegal land grabbing, he urged.
Calling upon the administration, he demanded that the government reflect the public's expectations and show respect to democratic rights and the public mandate. Otherwise, the government will be held accountable to the people, he warned.
Presided over by Shariatpur District Jamaat Amir Principal Abdur Rob Hashemi, the street rally was addressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Amir Maulana Mamunul Haque, Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad, among others. Central and local leaders of the 11-Party Alliance were present on the occasion. Leaders at the rally cautioned the government of intense street movements if the referendum mandate based on the July Charter is not implemented and constitutional reforms are not executed. Following the conclusion of the street meeting, the leaders departed for Khulna.
