National Citizen Party (NCP) Announces Extension of Mass Protests Across All Cities to Rebuild Dhaka

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has declared that the mass protest movement initiated at Dhaka's Shahbagh intersection will be expanded to every city, neighborhood, and alley across Bangladesh to drive comprehensive municipal reforms and fulfill the promises of the July Charter.

Speaking as the chief speaker at a 4-point demand mass rally organized by the NCP at Shahbagh on Friday afternoon, October 30, 2026, NCP Senior Joint Convener Nasiruddin Patwary highlighted the severe civic hardships faced by Dhaka residents. Patwary pointed out rampant price gouging in the LPG gas sector, where cylinders officially priced at ৳1,837 are being sold illegally for ৳2,500 to ৳3,500, forcing citizens in areas like Chawkbazar to cook with firewood. He further cited severe urban mismanagement across Mugda, Mirpur, Uttara, and Jatrabari, including hospital tender syndicates, daytime muggings, garbage heaps, traffic gridlocks, and unmanaged auto-rickshaws.

Addressing national policy and local governance, Patwary asserted that NCP will not compromise on implementing the July Charter and seeking justice for the 1,400 martyrs of the July Uprising as well as Osman Hadi. He announced that NCP will contest upcoming local government elections independently, having already fielded mayoral candidates for Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations. On urban transport, while supporting auto-rickshaw regulation and hawker management in principle, he demanded the immediate deployment of modern, high-speed public transport systems modeled after London, Tokyo, and New York before removing micro-transits, warning that failure to provide adequate public buses will prompt citizen blockades against luxury government vehicles.
