Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Charmonai Peer, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, has warned that sidelining Islamic scholars (Ulama) during state-building processes following political transitions leads to adverse national consequences.
He made the remarks while addressing as chief guest at the National Ulama Summit organized by the Jatiya Ulama Mashayekh Aimma Parishad at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka, on Thursday (October 8, 2026).
Addressing over a thousand scholars assembled from across the country, he asserted that Islamic scholars have historically played a pioneering role in every major national movement, including the July mass uprising. However, post-transition state reconstruction has repeatedly excluded them, leading to unfulfilled public expectations. He also expressed sharp concern over government inaction regarding public health crises, citing dengue and measles outbreaks, while criticizing price hikes on essential commodities.
Following the convention, the new central committee of the Jatiya Ulama Mashayekh Aimma Parishad for the 2027–28 session was officially announced, with Mufti Mijanur Rahman Sayeed named Central President, Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain as Senior Vice President, and Mufti Rezaul Karim Abrar as General Secretary. Prominent scholars including Allama Nurul Islam Olipuri, Maulana Ahmad Ali Kasemi, and Islami Andolan Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman were also present.
