BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called for an immediate end to systemic extortion and mafia-style control within the road transport sector, urging effective measures to establish a passenger-friendly environment and legal order across highways.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday (October 8, 2026) following a wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesites of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Rizvi expressed confidence that the newly formed leadership of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation would play a pivotal role in reforming the sector. The new committee, led by newly appointed President and former MP Nazim Uddin Alam, Executive President Mortajul Karim Badru, and General Secretary Rezaul Islam Raju, joined Rizvi for the tribute. Rizvi emphasized that modernizing public transport through innovative ideas, safeguarding workers' rights, improving service quality, and enforcing strict legal compliance will bring a permanent end to the chaos that persisted over the past 17 years.
