'Individuals Formerly Serving Awami League Exploiting Government Protection for Transport Extortion': Shramik Majlis Leader
Shramik Majlis Central President Lecturer Muhammad Abdul Karim addressing party activists at the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Shramik Majlis Central President Lecturer Muhammad Abdul Karim has alleged that individuals previously affiliated with the Awami League over the past 17 years are currently operating under new political identities and government protection to perpetrate corruption across the transport sector.

Addressing a major labor rally organized by Shramik Majlis Dhaka North and South units at the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday (October 2, 2026), Abdul Karim warned that failure to control party extortionists would bring severe negative repercussions for the interim administration. He asserted that extortion networks have reactivated across key hubs including Gabtoli, Mohakhali, and Sayedabad bus terminals. Furthermore, Karim highlighted that fuel price hikes of 35 to 40 percent have placed immense financial pressure on nearly 100 million working-class citizens. Calling for the revival of closed state factories and guaranteed fair wages, he warned against reusing administration mechanisms for partisan interests and urged working-class unity against emerging neo-fascist trends. The rally was also addressed by Islami Juba Majlis General Secretary Principal Maulana Sohail Ahmad, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Majlis Secretary General Muhammad Ismail Khondokar, and Khelafat Majlis leaders.
