Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, held an emotional telephone conversation with the wife and elder brother of Toufiq Hossain, a garment worker who was killed during recent labor unrest in Sreepur, Gazipur. Speaking with the bereaved family on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the Jamaat chief pledged long-term organizational backing and financial support for the destitute family.
In a statement shared on social media, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, detailing how Toufiq and his elder brother—both raised as orphans under severe hardship—were employed at the same ready-made garment (RMG) factory in Gazipur. Toufiq's wife, who also previously worked in the garment sector before leaving her job to care for their 11-month-old infant son, Siyam, broke down in tears during the call. The family, originally from Govindaganj in Gaibandha, owns no land and is currently sheltered in a small room owned by Toufiq's uncle.
