Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mian Golam Parwar has urged the government and factory owners to rapidly declare a new minimum monthly wage for ready-made garment (RMG) workers and enforce it starting January 2027. Addressing a press conference in Dhaka on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Golam Parwar called for an impartial investigation to determine if the outlawed Awami League, Jubo League, Sramik League, or other vested groups are instigating vandalism and sabotage under the guise of labor protests.
Highlighting the severe economic pressures faced by RMG workers due to inflation, house rents, healthcare, and utility costs, Golam Parwar endorsed the workers' demand for a ৳30,000 monthly minimum wage. He noted that while a six-member Minimum Wage Board was constituted on November 1 and held its maiden meeting on November 4, the board must base its recommendations on actual living costs, family sizes, and market prices.
