Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Mia Golam Parwar has issued a strong statement condemning the detention of two Bangladeshi police personnel by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Cumilla border.
In an official statement released on Friday (October 16, 2026), Mia Golam Parwar described the incident as a grave violation of national sovereignty, international border laws, and regional security protocols. The incident occurred late Thursday night (October 15) near Border Pillar 2059 at Ashabari in Shashidal Union under Brahmanpara Upazila, Cumilla. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran Hossain and Constable Rohit Dewan from Brahmanpara Police Station were pursuing suspected drug traffickers during an anti-narcotics operation when they inadvertently crossed the frontier line, leading to their detention by BSF personnel.
Mia Golam Parwar stated that an aggressive posture by Indian border authorities undermines neighborly relations and mutual respect between two sovereign nations. Attributing such recurring border incidents to a weak foreign policy stance by the government, he urged the interim administration to lodge a formal diplomatic protest, demand remedial guarantees, and ensure strict adherence to international border management standards. Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion commanders conducted talks with BSF counterparts and successfully secured the repatriation of both police officers unharmed.
