Opposition Leader & Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Warns Government: 'The Snake You Are Dancing Will Bite You One Day'

Leader of the Opposition and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a stern warning to the administration on Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2026, cautioning against character assassination of opposition figures to cover up governance failures. Meeting freedom fighter and former MP Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman following his release from jail on bail, the Jamaat chief declared: "The snake you are dancing will bite you one day. The snake will bite and flee, leaving your corpses behind."

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman likened opportunistic political backers to "cuckoos of spring" who will disappear when difficult seasons arrive. He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh will never accept fascism again or bow down to autocratic intimidation, warning that organized public resistance is growing daily and will fight until citizens' rights are fully restored.

Highlighting the tangible impacts of Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman's public protest regarding mismanagement at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dr. Shafiqur Rahman noted that the protest yielded immediate administrative reforms. As a result of his stand against trolley shortages and luggage theft, 300 new trolleys were added in two phases, ground handling staff were equipped with body cameras, and luggage retrieval times were reduced to 15–20 minutes. The Jamaat chief strongly condemned the false cases, remand, and degrading treatment—including forcing a freedom fighter to wear a helmet and safety vest—inflicted on Major Akhtaruzzaman before his High Court bail was secured.
