A strong condemnation and protest meeting was held demanding the withdrawal of a case filed against H. T. Tofazzal, General Secretary of the Gouripur Journalist Oikya Forum, and the retraction of statements made by Mymensingh North District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Tanvir Ahmed targeting the organization's President, Md. Shahjahan Kabir Hira, and executive member and Dainik Dinkal Gouripur correspondent, Kazi Abdullah Al-Amin.
The protest meeting was organized at the office of the Gouripur Journalist Oikya Forum at 12:00 PM on Monday (October 5, 2026). The meeting was presided over by the organization's President, Md. Shahjahan Kabir Hira, and conducted by Office Secretary Abul Kalam Azad.
Speakers at the meeting stated that they consider the case filed against journalist H. T. Tofazzal to be "false and fabricated." They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the case and his unconditional release.
Furthermore, speakers protested the remarks made by Mymensingh North District Chhatra Dal Vice-President Tanvir Ahmed labeling journalist Oikya Forum President Md. Shahjahan Kabir Hira and executive member, Dainik Dinkal Gouripur correspondent, and former Gouripur Press Club President Kazi Abdullah Al-Amin as "drug traffickers and consumers." They demanded the retraction of these statements and an open, unconditional apology.
Speeches were delivered at the meeting by Journalist Oikya Forum Executive Member, former Gouripur Press Club President, and Mymensingh North District Jubo Dal Vice-President Kazi Abdullah Al-Amin, and Shyamganj Press Club President Al Imran, among others.
Also present at the event were Journalist Kalyan Sangstha President Kamal Uddin, Gouripur Reporters Club President Raihan Uddin Sarker, journalists Anwar Hossain Shaheen, Md. Humayun Kabir, Nurul Abedin, Lutfur Rahman Khan Khokon, Supak Ukil, Motiur Rahman, Mahfuzur Rahman Mahfuz, Ashikur Rahman, Mostofa, Shamim Alvi, Shyamganj Press Club Joint General Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Mamun, and various other media workers.
