Urgent Government Action Demanded to Protect Rights of Saudi-Bound Workers and Expatriates: Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, where thousands of migrant workers remain stranded following flight cancellations on the Saudi Arabia route.

Leader of the Opposition and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued an urgent appeal to the government to take immediate diplomatic and administrative steps to safeguard the jobs, visas, and wellbeing of Saudi-bound Bangladeshi migrant workers.

In a comprehensive statement published on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (October 14, 2026), the Opposition Leader highlighted that ongoing security restrictions and missile strikes at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport have resulted in the cancellation of 86 flights (36 direct and 50 transit). This major aviation disruption has stranded 13,490 passengers in Dhaka alone, leaving hundreds of migrant workers facing potential job loss, contractual disputes with Saudi employers, and expiring visas. Furthermore, all Dhaka-Riyadh flights have been officially suspended until at least October 17, 2026.

Emphasizing that the crisis impacts national remittance flow and family livelihoods, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment to establish immediate diplomatic coordination with Saudi Arabian authorities and employer organizations to secure visa validity extensions. He also urged airlines and civil aviation authorities to explore alternative transit routes and safe regional Saudi airports, while offering free re-ticketing and emergency travel assistance to affected workers and Umrah pilgrims.
