Bangladesh Extend Lead to 150 at Lunch After Hasan Mahmud Claims Historic First-Ever Fast Bowler Test Hat-Trick

Right-arm fast bowler Hasan Mahmud scripted history in Abu Dhabi on Day 3 of the one-off Test on Sunday (October 11, 2026), becoming the first Bangladeshi pacer to claim a Test hat-trick as Bangladesh bowled out Afghanistan for 240 and pushed their overall match lead to 150 runs by lunch.

Resuming from their overnight total of 217/4, Afghanistan suffered a catastrophic morning collapse, losing their final six wickets for just 23 runs under relentless pressure from Hasan Mahmud (5/55) and Ebadot Hossain (4/56). Hasan completed his historic hat-trick in the 83rd over by dismissing Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad, and trapping Zia-ur-Rehman LBW via a successful DRS review, joining spin icons Alok Kapali (2003) and Sohag Gazi (2013) as the only Bangladeshis to achieve a Test hat-trick. Despite the collapse, Afghan captain Rahmat Shah carried his bat with an undefeated fourth Test century (105*). Armed with a 106-run first-innings advantage, Bangladesh reached 44/2 in their second innings at the lunch interval, losing Shadman Islam (13) and Muminul Haque (7) before Tanzid Hasan Tamim (24*) and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto held firm to solidify the Tigers' commanding grip on the Test match.
