DHAKA — Six hours. Forty thousand tickets. Gone. The Hamza Choudhury effect has officially broken Bangladesh football's box office, as the national team's Asian Cup qualifier sold out faster than any sporting event in the country's history.

The Leicester City midfielder, whose mother hails from Sylhet, will captain the side wearing the red-and-green for the first time at home. 'I grew up hearing stories of Dhaka's football fever from my grandmother. Now I will live it,' Hamza said, mobbed by fans at the airport.

The football federation has arranged giant screens in all 64 districts, while jersey sales have crossed 200,000 units. 'Cricket is our love. But tonight, football is our heartbeat,' said supporters' club leader Rashed Khan, face painted half red, half green.
