A case has been filed in the court against Syed Nazmul Alom Parvez in Faridpur on charges of embezzling cooperative bank loan funds. He is a resident of the Raghunandan area in Faridpur town and the son of late Syed Nazrul Alam. Abdul Mannan, Assistant Manager of Faridpur Central Co-operative Bank Limited, filed the case on behalf of the bank at the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Faridpur on Monday.
According to the case statement, Parvez took a loan of Tk 1 lakh from the bank on September 14, 2017, and later took an additional Tk 30,000. Including principal, interest, and late service charges, a total of Tk 564,500 is currently due from him according to the bank's latest accounts. After taking the loan, he violated the terms and became a defaulter, repeatedly delaying payment when contacted. Although a registry notice was sent by the bank, he returned it unopened and explicitly refused to pay the due amount upon direct communication.
According to lawyers, after the case was filed, the honorable court ordered the CID to investigate the complaint. Plaintiff Abdul Mannan stated that they had to seek legal recourse as the accused kept stalling with false assurances and finally refused to pay. No statement could be obtained from the accused, Syed Nazmul Alom Parvez, regarding the matter.
Reports indicate that Parvez serves as the general secretary of the Faridpur district branch of the consumer rights organization Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB). Furthermore, he previously served prison sentences in three check dishonor cases and is currently out on bail, while another check case remains ongoing in the Bagerhat court. Recently, his unauthorized medical institution, "Ajker Saradesh Hospital and Diagnostic Center" at Kadirdi Bazar, was shut down by a mobile court operated by the Boalmari upazila administration. Additionally, after rumors spread on social media regarding the transfer and sale of a newspaper owned by him, he denied the allegations and filed a general diary (GD) at the Kotwali police station.
