Meghnaghat Power Limited Placed Up for Auction with ৳348 Crore Outstanding Gas Bills Owed to Titas Gas
Industrial energy infrastructure in Narayanganj, where state utility Titas Gas is moving to secure outstanding corporate debts.

State-owned Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC has issued a formal warning notice following the publication of an auction notice in an English daily for the sale of Meghnaghat Power Limited, a 450 MW power plant located in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The power plant is being placed up for auction while carrying unpaid gas bills and arrears totaling ৳347,97,42,000 (approximately ৳348 crore).

In its public notice, Titas Gas stated that it supplied gas to the facility for over two decades under a 22-year supply agreement, which officially expired on August 16, 2026. Following the contract expiration, gas supply to the plant was disconnected. Titas Gas strongly advised all interested buyers, financial institutions, and stakeholders to be fully cognizant of the plant’s outstanding liabilities and ensure the clearance of unpaid gas dues prior to executing any purchase agreements or ownership transfers.

The 450 MW plant has a rich corporate history of international handovers. Originally constructed by American energy giant AES Corporation, it was subsequently sold to UK-based CDC Globeleq, then acquired by Malaysia's Pendekar Group, and eventually purchased in its entirety in 2016 by China's state-owned energy giant, China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).
