The pilot program for the Farmer Card initiative is set to launch in Thakurgaon starting October 1, bringing 2,137 marginal and small-scale farmers across two local blocks under government agricultural services and incentives. Beneficiaries will each receive Tk 2,500 in annual cash assistance alongside standard agricultural support.
Details of the initiative were disclosed on Tuesday noon during a consultative meeting on the implementation of Farmer and Family Cards at the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner's office. According to district administration sources, the pilot covers 1,172 farmers in a block under Kujishahar union in Ruhia upazila and 965 farmers in a block under Kaharpara village in Nargun union, Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Local Government) Md. Abu Zafar attended the meeting as the chief guest, emphasizing that the primary goal of the Farmer Card is to ensure genuine and marginal farmers receive government assistance transparently and without exclusion.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque presided over the session, which featured remarks from Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Nazmul Haque Sumon, along with local organizational and community representatives.
Officials noted that the experiences gathered from this pilot project will guide future expansions of the program to support agricultural development and streamline public assistance delivery.
