A mobile court has arrested three people and sentenced them to varying terms of imprisonment following an anti-drug and online gambling drive conducted across different areas of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi.
The drive was carried out on Monday (September 28, 2026) in the Thandarpara, Khutipara, and Shibpurhat areas of the upazila based on secret information. The primary objective of the operation was to identify drug dealers and traffickers, bring them under the law, and prevent the spread of drugs in the locality.
During the operation, three individuals were arrested red-handed for consuming drugs and participating in illegal online gambling. Subsequently, a mobile court sentenced one of the accused to six months of imprisonment, while the other two were sentenced to four months of imprisonment along with a financial fine, depending on the severity of their offenses.
Regarding the campaign, Puthia Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shibu Das stated that the upazila administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy to protect the youth and maintain peace and order in the area. He added that such rigorous campaigns by the upazila administration against drug dealers, moneylenders, and illegal gamblers will continue in the future.
