Three female school classmates left home in the morning under the pretext of going to school, but instead of going to class, they headed to the Pabna bus terminal. From there, they traveled by bus to Natore, and subsequently via Rangpur to Kurigram, with the intention of heading towards the border area. Ultimately, their plan was thwarted after they lost their way in an unfamiliar neighborhood. The three schoolgirls were successfully rescued with the assistance of a local police officer's family.
On Monday (September 28) afternoon, the Pabna Sadar Police Station handed the three teenagers over to their families. The incident occurred on Sunday (September 27).
All three teenagers are students of Char Ashutoshpur High School in Pabna Sadar upazila. One of them is in the eighth grade, while the other two are in the sixth grade. They are residents of the same area, and two of them are related to each other.
According to family and police sources, the financial condition of all three families is stable; their guardians work as furniture makers or workshop laborers.
Police and family members reported that one of the girls had long been subjected to teasing and taunting by her family regarding her facial appearance and eye condition. This generated anger and emotional distress within her, leading her to contemplate leaving home. Alongside watching various online videos and entertainment content, she developed an interest in the popular South Korean music band BTS. She shared her plan to leave the country via the border area with her two classmates, who subsequently decided to accompany her.
According to the plan, the three gathered at school around 10:00 AM on Sunday. Skipping classes, they took an autorickshaw to the Ananta Mor area of Pabna, and from another autorickshaw, they reached the Pabna bus terminal and boarded a bus. Traveling via Natore and Rangpur, they eventually arrived in Kurigram.
The families claimed that when leaving home, one of the girls took nearly Tk 100,000 kept by the family. Reaching the Kurigram bus terminal before evening, the three girls began searching for a place to stay overnight. While searching, they entered an unfamiliar neighborhood, where their movements aroused suspicion in the family of a local police officer.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Taj Uddin of Kurigram Sadar Police Station resides in that neighborhood. His wife noticed the three unfamiliar girls and spoke with them. Finding their conversation and behavior suspicious, she brought them to her own home, where they were provided with food and a chance to rest.
Later, when the matter was informed to SI Taj, he and his wife tactfully collected the family's mobile numbers from the girls. They then contacted the family members to inform them of the girls' whereabouts, while simultaneously notifying the relevant police station.
Meanwhile, as the three girls did not return home, their families grew deeply concerned, and separate General Diaries (GDs) were filed at the Pabna Sadar Police Station. Taking the simultaneous disappearance of three minor girls from the same school with utmost seriousness, the Pabna District Police launched active efforts to rescue them.
Subsequently, through communication with SI Taj of Kurigram Sadar Police Station, the Pabna police confirmed the location of the three girls. With the assistance of the Kurigram Sadar Police, they were safely rescued.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tariqul Islam stated that after the three girls went missing, their families filed separate General Diaries at the station. Treating the matter seriously, the police worked on it and confirmed their location through a sub-inspector of Kurigram Sadar Police Station. With the cooperation of the Kurigram police, the three girls were safely rescued and handed over to their families.
