An attack, vandalism, looting of belongings, and dumping of household items into a pond occurred over a land dispute in the Kuribishwa Kuthipara area of Kolkond Union under Gangachara upazila, Rangpur. Several members of the same family, including siblings, were injured in the incident. Two of the injured were transferred from the Gangachara Upazila Health Complex to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to the police complaint, the incident took place on Thursday (September 24) around 8:30 AM. The plaintiff, Md. Badal Mia (28), filed a case at Gangachara Model Station naming seven individuals. The complaint states that the accused initially threatened them to vacate their homestead, and upon protest, armed with sticks, daos, knives, iron rods, and axes, they forced their way into the house to carry out the assault.
The attack left plaintiff Md. Badal Mia, his elder brother Kajol Mia, and sister Ayesha Siddika injured. Kajol Mia sustained a cut injury on his right-hand finger from a sharp weapon and was reportedly subjected to an attempted strangulation with a rope around his neck. The attackers also vandalized tin fences and a private vehicle, threw household goods into a pond, looted other possessions, and allegedly stole 55,000 Taka from a rice drum in Kajol Mia's bedroom, causing total damages of around 1.5 lakh Taka. Four local witnesses were named in the complaint.
After being initially treated at Gangachara Upazila Health Complex, Kajol Mia and Ayesha Siddika were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Plaintiff Badal Mia alleged that the attack was led by local Awami League ward president Shahinur Islam and appealed to the state for security. Gangachara Model Police Station officer Abdur Sobur stated that the matter is being taken seriously and necessary action will be taken.
