Various dishonest traders have illegally occupied footpaths and service lines along the Dhaka-Tangail highway near the Chandra Trimohoni area in Kaliakair, Gazipur, running thriving businesses for quite some time.
The situation was observed on Friday, September 25. Vehicles from various routes were seen lined up on the highway from the Chandra Kancha Bazar foot-over-bridge. Additionally, bustling shops have been established inside the passenger shelter near Chandra Government College, making pedestrian movement extremely difficult.
During an on-the-spot visit, garbage was seen piled up along the roadside. A pedestrian stated that movement has become very troublesome due to the illegal shops and surrounding garbage. Long-distance vehicles traveling to and from North Bengal stop at Chandra Trimohoni to board and drop off passengers, resulting in persistent traffic jams on the highway.
In response, Nowjor Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zafar Uddin Khan stated that anti-encroachment operations are ongoing and the Chandra issue will be addressed very soon to ensure no shops are permitted beside the highway.
