The Bangladesh surfing team has arrived in Nagoya, Japan, aiming to create history at the Asian Games.
Team official and coach Md. Saifullah Sifat informed that the team landed at Aichi-Nagoya Airport at 3:50 PM local time on Tuesday (September 22). Earlier, they embarked on their journey from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport via Hong Kong at 2:00 AM on the night of September 21.
Following accreditation formalities at the airport, the surfers took a bus ride of approximately five and a half hours to check into a hotel near the surfing venue. Upon arrival, they received their welcome packs and reviewed the competition schedule. Teams from various nations, including India, Sri Lanka, China, and others, are currently staying at the same hotel.
Only Two Days of Practice: The venue will remain open for practice on September 23 and 24. Subsequently, the main competition will kick off at 7:00 AM on September 25 and run through September 28.
The weather in Nagoya is currently somewhat cool and overcast. While there was the impact of a typhoon last week, organizers expect favorable weather conditions during the tournament.
A total of 48 surfers from 17 countries, including host Japan, are participating in this edition. National champion Fatema Akhter will compete in the women's category and Md. Mannan in the men's category for Bangladesh. This marks Bangladesh's maiden appearance in surfing at the Asian Games.
Coach Sifat stated, "Everyone in the team is in good health. We will begin venue inspection and practice from tomorrow. We will adapt quickly and take our preparation to the maximum level."
