The construction of the bridge over the Bangali River at Shimulbaria Naya Miar Ghat in Kamalarpara union of Gaibandha's Saghata upazila was completed nearly two years ago. Built at a cost of approximately Tk 6.67 crore, the bridge fulfilled the long-standing dream of the local people; however, that dream remains largely unfulfilled as the access (approach) roads have not been built. Due to objections raised by a few local individuals, construction on both ends of the bridge remains halted, rendering this important bridge virtually useless.

According to locals, after the bridge's construction was completed, the responsible contractor and relevant authorities attempted to build the access roads, but several individuals from both banks of the river claimed the land was recorded under their ownership and obstructed the work. Faced with this opposition, the contracting firm left the site without finishing, halting the access road project, which has yet to be implemented. Consequently, despite the bridge being built, normal vehicular movement has not been established.

Residents stated that the bridge was constructed in response to the long-standing demands of people living on both banks of the Bangali River. Everyone expected that the opening of the bridge would open new doors of possibility in education, agriculture, commerce, and healthcare. However, the lack of an access road has shattered those expectations. Every day, students, farmers, businessmen, and patients are facing severe hardships. Local farmers complained that they have to incur additional transportation costs as they cannot market their agricultural produce quickly. On the other hand, critical patient transport faces a waste of precious time, which often creates life-and-death risks. Expressing their anger, a few residents who wished to remain anonymous said, "The government has spent crores of taka to build the bridge, but due to the objections of one or two individuals, the public is not getting its benefits. If the access road is not built soon, this bridge will merely remain a symbol of wasted government funds."

Regarding this matter, local Union Parishad Chairman Shahinur Islam Saju stated that the issue of constructing the access road has been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities and they are being urged to proceed. He expressed hope that work would begin once the necessary budget allocation and administrative processes are completed.
