The arrests took place on Sunday night (September 27, 2026) across various areas of Banshkhali Upazila. According to Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rabiul Hoque, law enforcement personnel seized two celebration cakes prepared by BCL activists to mark the birthday of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The arrested individuals were identified as Ahammad Hossain (55), Jaker Ahammad (60), Jafar Ahammad (32), Jomir Uddin (28), Riaz Uddin (21), Syed Nur Hridoy (23), S.M. Mozammel Hoque (22), and Azad Mia (18). Police confirmed that among the detainees are two members of the banned Awami League, two from the Jubo League, and four BCL activists. All eight suspects have been charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act and were forwarded to court on Monday.
