CHATTOGRAM — The nation's premier seaport handled a record 3.5 million TEUs this year while slashing average vessel waiting time from 6 days to just 2, port authority data shows — a turnaround credited to the new Patenga Container Terminal and 24/7 delivery.

'Two years ago importers bribed for serials. Today an app tells you your container's exact slot,' said clearing agent Kamal Uddin. Night delivery, once unthinkable, now clears 30% of boxes.

The port's $2 billion Bay Terminal dredging begins next quarter, promising capacity for 5 million TEUs and mother vessels up to 12 metres draft.
