Mustafa Pramanik, one of the arrestees in the sensational rape and murder case of 10-year-old schoolgirl Kamrunnahar Koli in Dogachhi union of Pabna sadar upazila, has made shocking revelations to police during his remand interrogation.
According to law enforcement, Koli was assaulted immediately after Mustafa finished his Maghrib prayers on the prayer mat, and she was murdered within roughly fifteen minutes of the attack. Following the crime, Mustafa allegedly washed away the blood-stained evidence by taking a bath and brazenly reopened his grocery store at around 10:00 pm, even joining family members later in searching for the missing child.
Police stated that while Mustafa confessed during remand to the rape and murder—claiming both he and another suspect were involved—the second accused, Yasin Ali, denied direct involvement in the assault or killing. Yasin claimed that he only assisted Mustafa after the murder was already committed, when Mustafa sought his help.
Ten-year-old Koli, a fourth-grade student at local Al Falah Academy, went missing on the evening of September 7. Seven days later, on September 16, her sack-bound body was recovered from a roadside ditch near her home. Police subsequently arrested Mustafa Pramanik and his tenant, Yasin Ali.
Case investigating officer (IO) DB Police Sub-Inspector Benu Roy, PPM, stated that the two suspects were swiftly identified using information technology on the very day the body was found. Mustafa’s suspicious demeanor immediately alerted officers during the initial detention; when a local ward member grabbed his hand, Mustafa began trembling so violently that police officers checking his heartbeat felt compelled to take him into custody on the spot.
Further investigation revealed chilling details of hypocrisy. In the days following the disappearance, Mustafa actively mingled with the victim's grieving father, called family members late at night to check on search efforts, participated in demonstrations and human chains demanding justice, and even stood alongside journalists and police officers during the recovery of the body.
According to the investigating officer, Koli had visited Mustafa's shop with her brother around 9:45 am on the day of the incident to buy chips, during which Mustafa covertly photographed the child in compromising poses using his mobile phone—images later recovered during digital forensics. Later that evening, after local customers left the storefront, Mustafa finished his prayers, lured Koli into a back room behind his grocery shop, raped her repeatedly, and smothered her to death with a pillow within 15 minutes.
Investigator Benu Roy added that a trove of objectionable photographs of other underage girls from the neighborhood was also discovered on Mustafa’s phone, painting a picture of a habitual predator. Police noted that the investigation is roughly 99% complete, pending digital and forensic reports. On Monday (September 21), physical evidence collected from the victim was dispatched to the Rajshahi CID laboratory. Once the forensic reports are finalized, authorities will have definitive scientific confirmation regarding the involvement of one or multiple perpetrators.
Previously, police revealed that after murdering the child, the perpetrators attempted to conceal her body in a sack, but abandoned the plan and fled when stray dogs chased them and the body began to emit a foul odor. The following day, locals detected the stench and alerted police, who recovered the remains. Autopsy and medical examinations at Pabna General Hospital confirmed rape, prompting police to seek a five-day remand after arresting the two suspects in connection with the murder and rape case. Although a five-day remand was granted, the rapid confession led to its early conclusion, according to the IO.
Meanwhile, enraged locals vandalized and looted Mustafa’s residence over the past three days, reducing roughly 80 percent of the structure to ruins. On Sunday afternoon (September 20), grieving relatives and general citizens surrounded the Pabna court and DC office, demanding a formal chargesheet within seven days and threatening broader protests if justice is delayed.
