Even after eight months of exhuming the body, the forensic report in the murder case of Nafiul Karim Sohan (23), a university student from Faridpur upazila in Pabna, has not been released yet, leaving the victim's family in deep frustration and insecurity. On Thursday (September 24) afternoon, Nafiul's parents disclosed various grievances during a press conference held at a newspaper office in Pabna town. They stated that nearly 15 months have passed since their son's murder and eight months since the exhumation, yet the forensic report is still withheld. Furthermore, no accused individuals in the case have been arrested, and the suspects are roaming freely while openly threatening the family.
According to case details, Nafiul Karim Sohan was a pharmacy department student at Gono University and the son of Rezaউল Karim and Nasima Akter couple from Dighulia village in Faridpur upazila, Pabna. He came home on Eid vacation on June 5 last year, and on the morning of June 9, his parents found his lifeless body. The family alleged that a dispute arose with Nafiul's uncle Ibrahim Hossain, Nazrul Islam, and their cousins over purchasing land in front of their house. Following this, the accused had threatened Nafiul, and his parents accused his uncle and cousins of strangling Nafiul to death on the night of June 8.
After losing their son, overcoming various pressures and crises, Nafiul's mother, Nasima Akter, filed a murder case in the Pabna court on August 4 naming six accused individuals. For the sake of investigation, police exhumed Nafiul's body from the grave on January 27 of this current year following court orders. Nafiul's parents complained that the accused party has continuously threatened and harassed them in various ways since the case was filed, and even alleged physical assault, leaving them in constant fear for their safety.
Victim's father, Rezaul Karim, said, "They are threatening me at various times, saying 'We killed your son, we will finish you off too.' Will we not get justice for our son's murder? Or did we make a mistake by seeking justice for our son's killing? Therefore, my demand to the government is that if the accused are arrested quickly and taken on remand, everything will come to light. We want exemplary punishment for the actual killers."
Nafiul's mother, Nasima Akter, said, "The police always had communication with the accused because the accused used to visit the police station. Seeing that, I never dared to go to the station out of fear of who might attack me, since the threats have been ongoing. I am living in this condition. I want justice for my son's murder. I request that the forensic report be given quickly and the accused be arrested. Along with that, appropriate punishment for the perpetrators should be ensured swiftly through a quick chargesheet."
Regarding the matter, Faridpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monzurul Alam Masud stated that higher authorities have been nudged for the forensic report, and legal action is being taken by accepting a General Diary (GD) regarding the threats. He added, "I am new here, so I need to check the details of the case to see what condition it is in."
Meanwhile, the prime accused, Ibrahim Hossain, denied the allegations made by the victim's family, saying, "We ourselves do not even know how the boy died. The police have investigated. They filed a case in court. Whatever the law decides will happen. The court will prove which is true and which is false."
