Following allegations of serious irregularities—including the use of thin wire instead of steel rods in the footpath slabs and railings of a bridge under construction in Begumganj upazila, Noakhali—the local authorities have taken strict disciplinary action. The construction project, valued at approximately Tk 5.5 crore on the Zamindarhat-Maizdi regional highway, faced severe public backlash after substandard work and weak slabs became visible. In response to the incident, a one-member investigation committee headed by LGED Noakhali region Superintending Engineer ASM Mohsin was formed to inspect the site. Concurrently, Begumganj Upazila Engineer Abul Mansur Ahmed has been transferred, while two other local LGED engineering staff members have faced administrative action for negligence of duty as investigations and removal of the faulty structures continue.
