Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah, naming ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the prime accused over a procession staged by the banned Awami League, Chhatra League, and Swechchhasebak League. The case names 52 individuals alongside another 100 to 120 unnamed suspects, with police arresting five people in connection with the incident.
Kotchandpur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mujahidul Islam filed the case as the plaintiff on Monday (September 21) afternoon. Kotchandpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter on Tuesday night (September 22), stating that police seized evidence from the scene and launched operations to nab the remaining suspects.
According to police, early Monday morning, leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League brought out a procession along the Kaliganj-Jibannagar road near the College Bus Stand area in Kotchandpur town. Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the site, dispersed the participants, and seized eight wooden sticks as evidence. Police noted that a video circulating on social media on Monday morning showed around 15 to 20 individuals, led by former Kotchandpur Upazila Chhatra League President Sheikh Shahin, carrying a banner during the march.
