A human chain and street meeting have been held demanding a solution to the severe traffic congestion in Kishoreganj district town.

On Saturday (October 31) morning, the human chain and street meeting were organized in front of Syed Nazrul Islam Chattar adjacent to the Akhra Bazar bridge in Kishoreganj district town.

Leaders and members of the Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, and Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA), Kishoreganj district branch, participated in the human chain and street meeting. Additionally, representatives of social and civic organizations, along with people from various professions, took part in the event.

Speeches were delivered by Advocate Maya Bhoumik, President of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Kishoreganj district branch; Atia Hossain, General Secretary; Md. Farukuzzaman, General Secretary of Nirapad Sarak Chai Kishoreganj district branch; Md. Lutful Kabir, Treasurer of BAPA Kishoreganj district branch; artist Abul Hashem, Md. Ruhul Amin, Kamrunnahar, Bilkis Begum Ruji, Monika Das, and S.M. Jahangir Alam, among others.

At this time, speakers raised several specific demands to resolve the traffic congestion in Kishoreganj town. These include halting random vehicle parking, making footpaths completely encroachment-free, evicting illegal autorickshaw and other vehicle stands, strengthening traffic management at important roads and intersections, arranging adequate parking in designated areas, and developing a planned transport system suitable for the town.

Speakers said that the traffic congestion situation in Kishoreganj town is becoming unbearable day by day. Due to unplanned vehicle movement, random parking, footpath occupation, illegal vehicle stands, and weak traffic management, city residents are facing extreme suffering every day. In particular, the hardships of students, patients, working people, and general pedestrians have exceeded all limits.

The speakers further stated that a permanent solution to the traffic problem is not possible through isolated drives or temporary initiatives by the administration. For this, the district administration, municipality, traffic department, and transport owner-worker organizations, along with all concerned parties, must play coordinated and responsible roles.

The speakers also noted that regular monitoring and effective implementation of decisions are crucial to restoring discipline in the management of the district town's roads, footpaths, and vehicular movement.
