Guardians of students and local residents staged a human chain in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, demanding the immediate dismissal of Ashraful Alam, a staff member (Daftari) of Dhalia Azimun Nessa Girls' High School, following allegations that he eloped with his brother-in-law's wife.

The human chain was held on Sunday (November 1) at noon on the premises of the school located in Dhalia village under Dhitpur union of the upazila.

Among those who addressed the human chain were guardians Md. Fakhr Uddin, Harun Or Rashid, and Sohel Mondal, alongside others.

Speakers alleged that school staff Ashraful Alam engaged in an extramarital affair with his own brother-in-law's wife and eloped with her, sparking widespread criticism and uproar in the area. They further alleged that deeply humiliated by her father's scandalous actions in society, Ashraful’s daughter and class VII student of the school, Monisha Akter, committed suicide.

Asserting that an individual accused of such grave moral turpitude has no right to serve as a staff member in a girls' educational institution, the participating guardians and locals voiced deep concern over the honor and safety of their children.

The speakers also mentioned that two court cases are currently pending against Ashraful Alam. Demanding his immediate termination, they stated they refuse to see him remain in his position at the school; otherwise, they threatened to withdraw their children and enroll them in other educational institutions.

Meanwhile, Sabina Khatun, wife of Ashraful Alam, stated that after her husband’s illicit affair became public knowledge, it drew severe criticism across the locality. At one point, their daughter Monisha confronted her father, saying, "Because of you, we will not be able to show our faces in society."

According to Sabina Khatun's allegations, in response to this, Ashraful told his daughter, "If you can't show your face, hang yourself." Hearing such callous words from her father, their daughter committed suicide out of sheer shame and disgust, she claimed.

Sabina Khatun further alleged that Ashraful is continuously issuing death threats against her and their children.

Regarding the matter, Mohammad Rahat Khan, Headmaster of Dhalia Azimun Nessa Girls' High School, stated that he has heard about the incident, but no one has yet submitted a written complaint to him. In response to a query, he remarked that an individual facing allegations of moral turpitude has no scope to retain the position of a staff member at a girls' school.

The headmaster added that staff member Ashraful Alam is currently in an OSD (Officer on Special Duty) status.
