An administrative investigation has been launched in Betagi upazila, Barguna, following allegations of widespread irregularities regarding teacher salaries and textbook distribution across four Ebtedaee madrasas.
Although government records show that 20 teachers (five per institution) receive salaries and allowances and 120 students (30 per institution) are enrolled with allocated textbooks, field investigations revealed a starkly different reality. Thr
ee of the institutions—Jalisharhat Dalil Uddin, Karuna Hasania Darul Ulum, and Uttara Kaunia Salehia Ebtedaee Madrasa—were found completely deserted during visits, with dust-covered benches, dilapidated infrastructure, and locked rooms, while teachers were absent.
Locals alleged that regular classes have remained suspended for months, teachers are chronically absent due to other professions, and institutional land assets have been misused. Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muh. Saddam Hossain stated that an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the allegations, and legal action will be taken upon verification.
