Press Club Jessore Election 2026: Zahid Hasan Tukun Elected President, Nur Islam General Secretary

Zahid Hasan Tukun and Nur Islam have been elected President and General Secretary respectively in the Press Club Jessore Executive Committee Election 2026. Six candidates were elected uncontested in the festive and peaceful poll held on Saturday.

Newly elected President Zahid Hasan Tukun and General Secretary Nur Islam pose with fellow office-bearers following the announcement of the Press Club Jessore Election 2026 results.

The official results for the Press Club Jessore Executive Committee Election 2026 have been announced following a peaceful and festive voting process. Zahid Hasan Tukun, Editor of Dainik Jashore, was elected President, while Nur Islam of Dainik Manabzamin secured the position of General Secretary.

The official declaration was issued on Saturday, September 19, signed by the Election Steering Committee Chairman Advocate Syed Saberul Haq Sabu, Member Secretary Advocate Haji Anisur Rahman Mukul, and Committee Member Rezaul Karim.

In a competitive race for the presidential post, Zahid Hasan Tukun won with 68 votes, while his nearest rival Fakir Shawkat bagged 41 votes.

The General Secretary position saw a three-way contest where Nur Islam emerged victorious with 45 votes. His closest contenders, Wahabuzzaman Jhantu and Jewel Mridha, received 41 and 29 votes respectively.

Six candidates were elected uncontested across key executive positions:

Vice Presidents (2 posts): Anwarul Kabir Nantu and Sarwar Hossain

Joint Secretaries (2 posts): Kazi Ashraful Azad and Firoz Gazi

Treasurer: Zahid Ahmed Liton

Office Secretary: Tauhid Moni

In other contested posts, Dewan Moreshed Alam was elected Secretary of Sports, Culture, and Social Welfare with 59 votes, defeating Saifur Rahman Saif, who bagged 52 votes.

Six members were elected to the Executive Committee: Shahid Joy (securing the highest individual vote count at 96), Rafiqul Islam (92), Galib Hasan Piltu (81), Murshidul Azim Hiru (79), SM Sohel (62), and Tauhid Zaman (59). Among other member candidates, Safiqul Alam received 54 votes and Abdul Wahed Mukul secured 48 votes.

The Election Steering Committee confirmed that voting took place smoothly from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the club's temporary office. Following their victory, newly elected President Zahid Hasan Tukun and General Secretary Nur Islam expressed their gratitude to all members and called for unified efforts to further enhance the club's legacy and welfare for journalists.
