Locals of Shyampur (Kuthibari) village under Ward 9 of Kashipur union in Phulbari upazila, Kurigram, have alleged that a local resident named Sri Rajendranath has illegally constructed a permanent brick house on a public government road, completely cutting off public access. The 1.5-kilometer road stretching from Kashipur College Mor to Majhitari is used daily by 1,500 to 2,000 people, causing immense suffering for students, farmers, and the elderly.
Residents reported that when protests or objections were raised by neighbors and family members, the accused or hired thugs threatened them. Kashipur Union Parishad Chairman Md. Moniruzzaman Manik stated that village police and local dignitaries attempted to stop construction, but the owner ignored warnings. Locals have urged the upazila administration and assistant commissioner (land) to investigate and clear the encroachment.
