Police have arrested three activists—Jubo League activist Taibur Rahman Rubel, and Chhatra League activists Harunur Rashid and Bulbul—in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The arrests were made during separate drives conducted on Wednesday (September 16). On Thursday (September 17), they were sent to jail through the Sherpur court.
According to police and local sources, leaders and activists of the banned organization Awami League's affiliated wings had been staging public programs openly both day and night across various parts of the upazila over the past few days, carrying torches and sticks during these gatherings.
Following these incidents, police launched operations to apprehend those involved. On Wednesday afternoon and night, three individuals were arrested across different locations and subsequently shown arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafu Zaman confirmed the matter, stating that the arrestees face charges of engaging in anti-state and anti-government activities aimed at disrupting the peaceful environment in various areas. After completing legal formalities, police forwarded them to court.
