In a tragic incident, two young relatives—an uncle and his nephew—drown to death in a pond in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira, casting a pall of deep grief over their families and the entire locality.
The incident took place around 3:00 PM on Friday (September 18) in Sonatala village under South Sreepur union of the upazila.
The deceased children are Abdullah (8), son of Azgar Ali from Sonatala village, and Iqbal Hossain (7), son of Aminur Biswas from Baliadanga village in Krishnanagar union. Iqbal had been visiting his maternal grandfather's house in Sonatala village.
According to local accounts, family members went to offer Jummah prayers around noon on Friday. During this time, Iqbal and Abdullah went near the pond belonging to Abubakar Sheikh adjacent to the house. Unmindful of the danger, both children accidentally slipped into the deep water and drowned. When family members initiated a search shortly afterward, they discovered the lifeless bodies floating in the pond, plunging the households into heart-wrenching wails and profound sorrow.
