Police have arrested Mosharraf Hossain, commonly known as Musha, the dreaded chief of the notorious "Musha Bahini" and prime accused in multiple cases, including a murder case, bringing a sense of relief back among locals in Savar's Hemayetpur area.

Musha had been on the run for a long time following the brutal beating death of a young man named Opu Rari in July of this year. Darussalam Thana police apprehended him from the Bashundhara/Baridhara area of DMP in the early hours of Friday. Prior to that, in 2025, Detective Branch (DB) police had arrested him over an incident where he shot a Hemayetpur businessman named Ramzan to extort money. He also faces multiple student-protest and anti-discrimination movement murder cases filed across various police stations in Dhaka.

According to investigations, Mosharraf Hossain Musha was previously involved in extortion and other criminal activities in cahoots with leaders and activists of the banned Awami League during their tenure in power. Following the political shift on August 5, he cleverly cozied up to BNP leaders and managed to secure the position of President of the 7th Ward BNP in Savar's Tetuljhora Union. Afterward, he grew reckless again, making headlines for wielding firearms, land grabbing, extortion through shootings, assaults, and intimidation in the Hemayetpur area. Locals had long lived in terror of his gang and criminal exploits.

Several local residents, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that under the umbrella of the ruling party, the Musha Bahini had long been perpetrating various misdeeds in the area. Conversations with multiple victims corroborated his terrorist operations.

Previously, the Musha Bahini was accused of establishing dominance and controlling establishments and business centers around Hemayetpur garment zones, jute warehouses, bus stands, footpaths, the Joynabari road, and areas adjacent to the Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Confirming the arrest, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mostafa Hossain, the investigation officer for the Opu Rari murder case, stated that the arrested Mosharraf Hossain Musha has been sent to Keraniganj Jail. For the sake of the investigation, he will later be brought into police remand through a court petition for further questioning.
