Police have arrested two youths in Rangpur in connection with a case filed over the attempted rape of a 7th-grade private school student, recording explicit videos, and demanding extortion through blackmail. The arrested youths are Salman (20) and Swapna (21), both of whom are also students. They were arrested on Tuesday afternoon (September 22) from the Senpara and Kamarpara areas of the city.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.K.M. Nazmul Kader confirmed the information. Citing the case statement, the OC stated that on September 2, Salman took the 7th-grade victim—an acquaintance—to the empty house of his friend Swapna. There, Salman attempted to rape the girl and, failing to do so, recorded an explicit video. When the matter threatened to leak, Salman began threatening to spread the video on social media. Subsequently, he repeatedly contacted the student's personal online account to blackmail her, ultimately sending the video to the victim's mother and demanding money.
Police stated that following a case filed by the victim's father, officers arrested the accused from their respective homes. In the afternoon, the accused were produced before the Rangpur Metropolitan Cognizance Court, where the judge rejected their bail pleas and ordered them to be sent to jail. Meanwhile, the victimized student gave a detailed statement describing the incident under Section 22 in the same court.
