Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie has held an exchange meeting with local beneficiaries and residents regarding the polder rehabilitation project along the Naf River in Cox's Bazar. The meeting was held on Tuesday (September 22) at 11:30 AM at the Teknaf Upazila Parishad conference room. It was organized under the project titled "Border Security Development of Bangladesh-Myanmar and Rehabilitation of Naf River Polders (67/A, 67, 67/B, and 68) (2nd Revised)," implemented by the Bangladesh Water Development Board.
Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie attended the meeting as the chief guest. State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, Cox's Bazar-4 Member of Parliament Shahjahan Chowdhury, the Ministry Secretary, and the Chairman of the Water Development Board were present as special guests.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister stated that despite the massive allocation of funds, the project has failed to meet public expectations, and the justification for repeated revisions and additional allocations remains questionable. "The project has now become a thorn in our throat. But we cannot just sit around; this must be completed as well," he remarked.
He assured that work will resume afresh following a technical survey prioritizing border security, flood control, and river dredging. Later, he visited the Shah Porir Dwip Paschimpara embankment and listened to the suffering of local residents.
