The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested Hasan Mia (45)—an uncle-in-law accused in an attempted rape case involving his niece-in-law—during a raid in Gazipur on Tuesday night. Arrested Hasan Mia is the son of Aizar Rahman from Berakhai village in Pirganj upazila. SRB Senior Assistant Director Biplob Kumar Goswami confirmed the information on Wednesday noon.

​Citing the case statement, he stated that because they were neighbors, uncle-in-law Hasan Mia frequently propositioned the victimized niece-in-law with illicit proposals and threatened her when she refused. On August 12 around 1:00 PM, while the housewife was sleeping in her own room, Hasan entered and attempted to forcibly rape her. When the victim screamed, Hasan fled the scene. Following the incident, the victim filed an attempted rape case at Pirganj Police Station, after which the accused went into hiding. Acting on intelligence, SRB-13 intensified surveillance and, in a joint operation with SRB Rangpur and Gazipur, arrested Hasan from the Board Bazar area of Gazipur city on Tuesday night. SRB Senior Assistant Director Biplob Kumar Goswami stated that Hasan Mia has been handed over to Pirganj Police Station for further legal action.
