A Unique Beacon of Selfless Education: Eminent Teacher Ramanikanta Bepari

— Professor Dr. Asif Mizan Vice Chancellor, Darussalam University, Somalia, and Criminology, Governance & Human Rights Expert

October 5, 2026; World Teachers' Day. Today, when theoretical and institutional discussions are taking place worldwide regarding the role of teachers in nation-building, a great beacon of light emerging from a remote corner of Bangladesh is showing our entire nation a new path. The "Shri Shri Ramanikanta Bepari Pathshala," operated on the premises of the traditional Shri Shri Durga Temple in Rangta village, Rajihar union of Agailjhara upazila in Barishal district, is no longer just a school; it is a unique cradle of humanity and good governance.

A proud son of my native village and a deeply respected elder to me personally, eminent teacher Ramanikanta Bepari has been imparting basic education and moral light to tender-aged children completely free of charge for a long span of 55 years. Every day except Friday, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, he carries out this noble educational activity uninterruptedly.

Without any material interest, money, or the allure of cheap publicity, his lifelong self-sacrifice for the spread of education over more than five and a half decades and his selfless pursuit of nation-building have now been evaluated at the state level. Receiving this special eminent teacher honor award from the Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the prestigious World Teachers' Day event is a rare glory and an instructive example for the whole of Bangladesh.

As a researcher and academic in criminology and human rights, I firmly believe that building a just, crime-free, and progressive civil society requires laying the foundation of moral and human education at the primary level alongside state laws. Respected teacher Ramanikanta Bepari has quietly done just that for the past five and a half decades, serving as a profound source of inspiration for the current young generation, social thinkers, and policymakers. He stands as a living proof of how one can dedicate their life to human welfare above material demands.

His grassroots contribution to the sustainable development of the state and the building of an enlightened civil society will shine forever. The deeply respected Ramanikanta Bepari is the pride of our Rangta village and an exemplary role model for all of Bangladesh.

On this auspicious moment of World Teachers' Day, from my institutional and personal positions, I convey my deepest respect, utmost devotion, and sincere congratulations to this great educationist. May the Almighty grant him good health and a long life. May this honor inspire every citizen of the country to come forward for the welfare of society and the state from their respective positions.
