DHAKA — 'Priyo Maloti' owned the night. The intimate drama about a rural schoolteacher fighting for her students swept six Meril-Prothom Alo Awards — Best Film, Director, Actress, Screenplay, Cinematography and Music.
Mehazabien Chowdhury, accepting Best Actress to a standing ovation, dedicated the award 'to every elder sister in every village school who teaches 60 children under a leaking roof and still dreams'. Critics called her performance 'a quiet earthquake — no melodrama, just truth'.
Director Shankha Dasgupta thanked audiences for making the Tk 1.8-crore film a Tk 12-crore hit: 'You proved story is the real star.' The film now heads to Busan and Cairo festivals as Bangladesh's official entry.
