Rahul Gandhi Urges Supporters to Shop Locally During Diwali Season INDIA Alliance Rally at Ramlila Maidan

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has smartly handled economic concerns voiced by local merchants by calling on opposition supporters to shop at local retail markets before and after attending the INDIA alliance rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The opposition alliance organized the massive political gathering amidst ongoing festive preparations for Diwali. Fearing that heavy political rallies and traffic disruptions during the peak shopping season would harm seasonal sales, local merchant associations had previously appealed to opposition leadership to postpone their political programs until after the festival.

Addressing the situation on Saturday night via a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi encouraged millions of expected attendees to actively buy goods from small vendors and markets across Delhi. "Along with participating in protests, marches, and rallies tomorrow, do a little shopping too. This will support our local traders. I know our rally will not harm business owners. The BJP is spreading rumors because they are afraid. Do both together: protest and shop," Gandhi stated. According to reports by NDTV, the strategic move aims to neutralize political criticism while aligning public agitation with local economic welfare.
