Police have applied for a seven-day remand to interrogate MP Gazi Nazrul Islam (Satkhira-4) and his first wife, Maksuda Begum, in connection with an abetment of suicide case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Multiple officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Prosecution Department confirmed the development on Monday (September 21), stating that a remand hearing will take place before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam.
The remand request follows the recovery of the hanging body of the lawmaker's second wife, Morium Khatun, from Flat No. 203 of NAM Building No. 5 near Manik Mia Avenue on Sunday. The victim's father, Md. Masum Billah, subsequently filed an abetment of suicide case naming MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Begum, and brother-in-law Obaidur Rahman as accused. According to the case statement, the victim faced persistent physical and mental torture following her marriage, ultimately leading to her death.
