Social and humanitarian development organization SAWAB (Social Welfare Association for Bangladesh) has provided new houses to 28 helpless families who lost their homes due to floods in Banshkhali, Chattogram. Funded by the donor organization NAHAR, the newly constructed two-room semi-pucca houses were officially handed over to the beneficiaries on Wednesday (November 4).
During the severe floods in July of this year, extensive damage occurred across various areas of Banshkhali, rendering many families shelterless. Immediately following the floods, SAWAB carried out emergency relief operations and later undertook an initiative to construct 28 houses to rehabilitate the affected families.
The house handover ceremony was presided over by SAWAB Chairman S. M. Raseduzzaman. Dr. Mohammad Zakaria, Director General (Secretary) of the NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister's Office, attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Ruhul Amin and Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rabiul Haque along with his team. Local dignitaries, businesspersons, representatives, beneficiaries, and SAWAB's senior management team were also present.

The beneficiaries shared their experiences regarding the project's benefits, lifestyle changes, and future expectations.
Guests praised SAWAB's humanitarian initiative, noting that the combined efforts of non-governmental organizations alongside government actions are crucial for rehabilitating disaster-affected people. The newly housed families expressed immense relief after spending nearly three to four months in miserable, shelterless conditions following the floods. They also requested employment support—such as auto-rickshaws, grocery shop setups, and livestock—along with the installation of deep tube wells for safe drinking water.
SAWAB Chairman S. M. Raseduzzaman stated that SAWAB's journey in service to humanity will continue, and the organization will keep working toward the rehabilitation and quality-of-life improvement of disaster-stricken people in the future.
