Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, that targeted state initiatives will integrate between 3,000 and 4,000 megawatts (MW) of new solar capacity into the national grid before the onset of the upcoming summer season. Inaugurating the two-day "Bangladesh Solar Expo-2026" at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka, the Prime Minister detailed the government's long-term energy transition strategy under the theme: "Utilize Every Inch of Roof, Boost Solar Revenue."

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources and the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL). Delivering the keynote opening, the Prime Minister highlighted the newly promulgated "Special Solar Power Installation Ordinance 2026," which offers tax breaks, duty waivers, and financial incentives to scale rooftop solar across commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. Under net metering, consumers supplying surplus rooftop power to the national grid will be compensated at ৳10.50 per unit through February 2027.
